With this Award, the intention is also to demonstrate that good architecture is a major component of the positive influence on the human environment, and that physical development in Asia need not be in disharmony with the cultural values, national identity or the natural environment of developing countries in Asia.

More than a self storage project, this solution is for future of residential space where condos are getting smaller, and people needs are getting larger.

Self storagebusiness havealways been part of residentialcommunity in the Western countries, and growing in the Eastern part of the World during the past years.

This new trend in urban living lifestyle has grown into a necessity, as residential units are getting smaller to be feasible in the market. Renting space for storage become more sensible than buying.

With base knowledge from Western system supplier, the architects team design the architecture of REDD based on following main concepts:

First of all, to tailor-made all functional details to Thai users behavior. As an extension storage space for urban condominiums residences, this facility will also support fast-growing online products business in Thailand. Unit sizes and mix are based on market studies as if it is a condominium for stuffs.

Secondly, facing Eastern express way, the overall shape was studied to be a large signage, visible to both inbound and outbound traffic. The front facade literally became a large billboard, visible to half a million drivers every day, providing another business opportunity for clients.

Thirdly, as one of the first established self storage . business in Thailand, this first flagship facility have to be much more than functional. The external design boldly tells stories that can be perceived at a (drive by) glance. The architecture is a composition of stacks of cardboard boxes, with a layer of transparent wrapping material, giving a hint a storage facility. ‘Red’ is the main facade color as well as the brand identity, and project name. Red color emphasize strong visual identity, while the hue is adjusted to give a touch of Thainess.
